The unit specifies the technical skills required to effectively service, troubleshoot, and overhaul both manual and automatic transmission systems:
· Preparation & Organization: Learning to organize the workspace, tools (such as scan tools and hydraulic testers), and safety equipment required for transmission work.
· Manual Gearbox Overhaul: Detailed procedures for disassembling, inspecting, and reassembling manual units. This includes servicing clutches, flywheels, and synchronizer units.
· Automatic & Semi-Automatic Systems: Instruction on overhauling 6-speed automatic transmissions, including fluid assessment and diagnosing electronic controls using diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
· Drive Line Maintenance: Servicing the propeller shaft, universal and slip joints, differentials, and rear axle assemblies.
· Testing & Measurement: Performing hydraulic and tiptronic tests to verify transmission performance and ensure reliable vehicle operation.
You are expected to demonstrate proficiency in handling the following:
· Clutch Assemblies: Single plate and diaphragm types.
· Gearbox Linkages: Adjustment and repair of shifting mechanisms.
· Final Drives: Adjusting differentials to allow speed variations during cornering.
· Electronic Controls: Using computer-based systems to manage shift timing and fuel economy.
